TL;DR

SignalMetrics is a professional field tool for WiFi installers. It runs entirely on your device. It does not collect, upload, sell or share your personal information. Your test data (property names, access-point details, WiFi test results, notes) is stored only in your phone's local storage and never leaves the device unless you deliberately share it via a PDF export or a messaging app.

2. What data the app handles

SignalMetrics is designed for local, offline use. The app processes the following categories of data only on your device:

Property records you create — property name, address, notes.
Access-point records you create — AP name, model, mount location, MAC / BSSID, notes.
Test-result records generated when you run a WiFi test — spot name, SSID (WiFi network name), BSSID, band, signal strength in dBm, download / upload / ping / jitter figures, DHCP lease details, gateway address, the Cloudflare edge server that answered the test, notes and the timestamp of the test.
Network device scan records generated when you tap the "Scan Network" button on a property — for each TP-Link (Omada, Deco, Archer) or Ubiquiti (UniFi, EdgeMax, AirOS) device advertised on the local WiFi subnet: vendor, model (where the device discloses it), IP address, MAC address, firmware string, hostname and uptime. The scan does not record traffic contents, connected clients, or devices from any other manufacturer.
App preferences — the test-duration preset you've chosen, whether you've dismissed the "toggle WiFi before test" reminder, and whether you've acknowledged the first-run welcome sheet.

3. Where this data is stored

All of the data above is stored only in your phone's local storage (Android SharedPreferences via AsyncStorage). It is:

Not uploaded to Geek Fix or any server we control.
Not shared with any third party.
Not used for advertising, profiling or analytics.
Deleted permanently when you delete a record inside the app or uninstall the app.

4. Data we deliberately do NOT collect

SignalMetrics does not collect, transmit or ask permission to access any of the following:

Your name, email address, phone number or account credentials.
Advertising identifiers, device identifiers or telemetry.
Analytics or crash-reporting data.
Your contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
Your precise or approximate GPS location as location. See section 5.

5. Why the app requests Location permission (Android)

Android requires apps to hold the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission before the operating system will disclose the current WiFi network name (SSID) or signal strength (RSSI) to any app. SignalMetrics uses this permission for exactly one purpose:

To read the SSID, BSSID and signal strength of the WiFi network your device is currently connected to, so it can auto-fill those fields on the test result screen.

The app does not read your GPS coordinates and does not transmit any location data anywhere. You can decline this permission and enter SSID/signal manually — the rest of the app continues to work normally.

6. Network usage

SignalMetrics makes network connections in three tightly-scoped situations:

Speed testing — anonymous HTTP requests to speed.cloudflare.com's public speed-test endpoints to measure download, upload and latency. These requests contain no personally identifiable information. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how they handle inbound traffic.
Network device scan — vendor discovery broadcasts. When you tap "Scan Network" the app sends the standard, published, unauthenticated discovery packets that Ubiquiti and TP-Link management tools already use on business networks:
- A 4-byte UBNT Discovery request to 255.255.255.255 on UDP port 10001 (Ubiquiti UniFi / EdgeMax / AirOS).
- A 36-byte Omada Discovery Protocol request to 255.255.255.255 on UDP port 29810 (TP-Link Omada / EAP / JetStream).
These packets are broadcast only to the local WiFi subnet your phone is currently connected to. They never leave the LAN. They contain no personal data — only a fixed vendor magic-byte header.
Network device scan — HTTP fingerprint fallback. Directly after the broadcast phase, the app performs light HTTP GET requests to each host on the local /24 subnet (up to 254 hosts, hard-capped at 10 seconds total) purely to read the first ~4 KB of the response body and identify TP-Link or Ubiquiti login pages. These probes are unauthenticated and confined to port 80 on the LAN. No POST bodies are ever sent, and any host that isn't a TP-Link or Ubiquiti device is silently discarded from the results.

None of the discovery or fingerprint traffic is transmitted to Geek Fix, Cloudflare, or any third party. It stays on the customer's own network.

7. Sharing test reports

SignalMetrics lets you export a property's test report as a PDF or as plain text, and share it via your device's share sheet, email, WhatsApp or Telegram. Sharing is always initiated by you, one report at a time. When you share, the report is passed to the third-party app you choose (e.g. Gmail, WhatsApp) — that app then handles it under its own privacy policy.

8. Children

SignalMetrics is a professional field-technician tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Your rights

Because all your data lives on your device, you exercise your rights directly in the app:

Access: open the app and browse your properties, APs, test results and network scans.
Correction: edit any record in-place.
Deletion: use the "Delete property" or "Delete access point" actions inside the app to remove the property and its associated tests and device scans; or uninstall the app to wipe everything at once.
Portability: use the "Share Report" flow to export your data as a PDF or text — this includes properties, APs, test results and the latest device scan.

10. Changes to this policy

If SignalMetrics ever starts collecting data differently (for example, an optional cloud-sync feature you turn on), we'll update this page, bump the "Last updated" date at the top, and — where the law requires — highlight the change inside the app before it takes effect.

11. Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of England & Wales. If you're in the UK or EU and you believe your data rights have been infringed, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
